It's been a week and still not home yet, but headed home soon. I am going a bit stir crazy with only two runs in over the last week, but circumstances and personal lame-ness have limited my ability to get out the door. Right now, working a bit too hard on a bottle of red wine as I look out at the 30-degree countryside in mid-Michigan. Also hitting up the Bells (Kalamazoo) and Founders (Grand Rapids) Breweries while here. Also, jumping out of my seat every time a bird flies into the window. Is it mean to put a feeder so close to a big bank of windows?
Thinking about the PNW'ers running the Seattle Full/Half Marathon tomorrow and wishing everyone best of weather and best of luck.
Meanwhile, may as well share some of the outings from earlier this week. Both runs quite lovely with no shots heard though some hunters seen cruising by during run #2...
First run with sister-in-law during foggy, foggy morning, upper 40's. 5 miles in 44 minutes. Great start to the day. We were covered in icy dew when we finished.

Wild hops growing on fence row on in-law property. Anyone know how to determine their origin? Heard of wild hops in MI? Or maybe from an early German settler?

Escorts through the country for the lilly-livered. A bit flat. Lots of farms. Nice soft roads. Clean air.

Got deer? We process & store. = Fortunately, the F10 family handles that on their own. Hubs got a deer earlier this week & everyone processed. We'll be taking venison home with us! WOOT!
Anyone else out there streaking through the New Year?

We are in upstate NY and everyone has been warning us to stay away from the woods too. :) We did go for one run around the local college campus but that's all we've fit in so far since Wednesday. The blowing snow was not inspiring today. I've gotten soft living in Seattle!
ReplyDeleteWe were getting snow when we left MI today!
DeleteNo streaking for me:) sounds like you are having fun. I would be afraid to run alone too:)
ReplyDeleteI am taking on the RW streak this year - so far, so good
ReplyDeleteI have to run near woods or not run but I dress super bright with all kinds of reflective wear..
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoyed your time in MI! Sounds like you need some orange vests!

ReplyDeleteHappy (belated) Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteCan you teach me how to break down a deer??? It's one of those skills people in the South should have, but I was raised a city girl and never learned. I feel woefully inadequate.
PS - Definitely streaking! In fact, I'm going out to run... right... now!
The only thing I do with the meat is package it up. Hubs & family do the hanging, skinning, de-boning, cutting, etc. It's a big job - kinda messy & requires drinking a lot of bad, light beer. But, the payoff is great!
DeleteGosh, having to avoid hunters, that must be tough. Its not something we have to contend with when running on this side of the Atlantic as they are only allowed to hunt on private land in the UK and then only with permits. Its lovely to read another running blog - 8:20 miling - I wish! Am heading for Rome marathon (first one) in March but long runs only done at 10:50 at present.
ReplyDeleteLOVE venison. very jealous! looks beautiful too! and no, no streaking. if i didn’t have a set plan i probably would though.
